Company Overview
The Graduate Program in Mechanical Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin offers graduate studies in the area of Materials Science & Engineering. Both Master of Science in Engineering and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Mechanical Engineering are offered in this area. The Materials Engineering Area within Mechanical Engineering includes eleven full-time faculty available to supervise degree candidates. These faculty pursue research in a wide variety of topics related to Materials Engineering and within the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
Company History
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Texas at is a premier department in the nation, and is always striving to become better. It is part of the Cockrell School of Engineering. The first degree in engineering at the university was awarded in 1888, and six years later, in 1894, the Department of Engineering was established as a part of the University of Texas at Austin, with the Mechanical Engineering department being formed in 1914. Since then the School of Engineering has grown and developed and is today an integral part of the university.

Every year we graduate 12,000 students who are the next generation of leaders, thinkers, innovators and scholars. We are a world-class research university. Last year our faculty and their research teams attracted more federal research grants than any American university without a medical school, except MIT. We were one of the top five universities in the number of U.S. patents awarded to our researchers in 2009.
